Can I call 911 on my SmartLink PBX phone?

Can I call 911 on my SmartLink PBX phone?

Phone lines continue to be the most reliable way of connecting with Emergency Services.  Norvado’s SmartLink PBX Phone service carries on that reliability, but there is a small caveat.

Location Matters.

Prior to installation, SmartLink PBX phones are programmed to contact Emergency Services for the territory the devices are originally connected in.

  • Example: If your business office is in Bayfield County, calling 911 from your SmartLink PBX phone will connect you with the Bayfield County Emergency Services.

If a SmartLink PBX phone is taken on the road, connected to a new Internet service, and a call is placed to 911, the call will not reach the proper Emergency Services and could significantly delay the dispatching of help.

  • Example: If your business office is in Bayfield County, but you are working off-site at a location in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, calling 911 from your SmartLink PBX phone will connect you with the Bayfield County Emergency Services NOT the Eau Claire dispatch center.

Good News.  It's Preventable.

Take the worry out of calling 911 by educating your team on the issue and contacting Norvado to update a device’s location prior to travel.  Once the records are updated, Emergency Service calls will connect the caller to the closest response team. Simply call 800-250-8927 to update your records.

Education Is Key.

We understand the consequences this limitation may bring to your organization, which is why we are arming you with the proper documentation to keep this front of mind for all SmartLink PBX users.
