Fiber Optics brings many benefits to our customers and allows Norvado to offer the latest and greatest technologies. Which is why we will be providing phone service on Fiber Optics using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as of May 1, 2020. Traditional, plain old telephone service will be available if necessary and still required on our copper networks, but no longer the standard.
So what is VoIP?
VoIP is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a traditional (or analog) phone line. Norvado VoIP phone service allows you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. No special phone or phone equipment is needed.
Norvado VoIP services convert your voice into a digital signal that travels over the Internet. If you are calling a regular phone number, the signal is converted to a regular telephone signal before it reaches the destination.
A Norvado Fiber Optic Internet connection is required. The equipment within the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and specific programming keep subscribers from needing a specialized phone. You'll be able to dial just as you always have, and Norvado will provide a dial tone.
Local and long distance calls are handled the same for Norvado VoIP as they are for traditional Norvado phone service. Subscribers can make unlimited local calls and can either purchase a long distance calling plan or be billed on a per minute basis for long distance calls.
You are able to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. If you are calling someone who has a regular analog phone, that person does not need any special equipment to talk to you. If you are subscribed to Three-way Calling, you can also talk to more than one person at a time.
The biggest advantage of Norvado VoIP service is getting to keep the a reliable phone service from a local provider with fewer fees than traditional phone service. You will also get to keep these benefits:
All of our great phone features.
Connectivity during power outages with a backup battery power.
Direct connection to emergency services through 9-1-1.
Directory assistance/white page listings.
Yes, your phone and/or Internet service should not be impacted while using the other.
