What is WIFI 6?

WIFI 6 is the next generation of WIFI with advanced technologies to make your internet connection faster and more efficient. 

But new technology can only go so far. Maintained speeds are dependent on the device that is connected to the WIFI network. For example, an older iPhone may experience slower speeds than a newer iPhone and can slow down the entire network. However, WIFI 6 when connected to compatible devices will maintain top speeds.

Aside from more reliable speeds from WIFI 6, other benefits also come from the new technology. Increased security and increased battery life are two benefits that you will enjoy with an upgrade to WIFI 6!

How fast is WIFI 6?
WIFI 6 isn't about top speeds. Instead of boosting the speed for individual devices, WIFI 6 is all about improving the network when a bunch of devices are connected. But to answer your question, WIFI 6 routers can support speeds up to 9.8 Gbps. :) 
Is WIFI 6 more secure?
Yes! All WIFI 6 certified routers are equipped with the new security protocol, WPA3. WPA3 makes it harder for hackers to crack passwords by constantly guessing them, and it makes some data less useful even if hackers manage to obtain it. 
How do I get WIFI 6?
The short answer - update your devices. The first step is upgrading your router to one equipped with WIFI 6 technology (hint: our Apex WIFI solution is a great option). Next, consider your connected devices (i.e. phones, laptops, tablets, baby monitors). New devices will come equipped with WIFI 6 compatible technology, but your devices that are more than 3-4 years old are not likely equipped with the latest WIFI technology. 
What makes WIFI 6 faster?
The updated technology allows a WIFI 6 router to communicate with multiple devices at the same time, rather than broadcasting to one device, and then the next, and the next, etc. WIFI 6 will allow routers to communicate with up to eight devices simultaneously. Older WIFI technology only supported communication with up to four devices. Think of these new technology improvements as adding delivery trucks to a fleet. You can send each truck in different directions to different customers. Before you only had four trucks and now, with WIFI 6, you have eight!
