Why is my Social Security Number required to have service?

Norvado requires the use of Social Security Numbers (SSN) for three distinct reasons:

  1. We are a cooperative and issue capital credits to our members. We cannot give out capital credits without a customer’s SSN on file.

  2. If a customer defaults on their bill, we need the SSN in order to send that customer to collections.

  3. They are used to help prevent telecommunication fraud.

Social Security Numbers are only stored in our billing database, and are encrypted immediately after being entered. Only a few, specific people within our organization have access to this data.


Social Security Number Policy

  1. All new customer sign-ups require an SSN in order to activate service.

  2. Current customers, in good standing, who were not required to give their SSN initially should be asked for their number but will not be required to provide their SSN to reconnect seasonal services or to enable any other services.

  3. If a customer is disconnected for non-pay, an SSN will be required for reconnection.

  4. SSN is required in order to make a pay arrangement. No pay arrangement will be made without having a valid SSN on file.

  5. If a customer is reconnecting after being permanently disconnected, they will be required to provide SSN to activate service.
