Enhanced Music on Hold provides music or other recordings (such as announcements) to callers who are on hold, held in a call park orbit code, or in a Hunt Group queue. Enhanced Music on Hold can interact with the queue status announcement function on a Hunt Group in a Business Group.
To access Music on Hold, you first need to navigate to the online portal.
On the left panel, you will see an option labeled Music on Hold (Enhanced).
The BG Administrator can select the Music on Hold (Enhanced) link to open a new CommPortal window where they can manage Enhanced Music on Hold for their Department or Business Group.
On the Enhanced Music on Hold screen, the BG Admin can see the following tabs:
- Mappings
- Playlists & Tracks
Mappings
On the Mappings screen, the BG Admin can see the existing mappings of playlists to lines for their department or Business Group. Each mapping shows the department or line name, the number of the line it applies to, and the playlist associated with the mapping. A default mapping for a department or business group has 'Default' in the number column. The department or line name column is indented to show the hierarchy of department inheritance.

To add a new mapping for a business group line:
- On the BG Admin Mappings screen, select the New Mapping button. This launches a new window for creating the mapping.
- Select a department or business group from the dropdown menu.
- Select a line in the department or business group from the dropdown menu.
- Alternatively, search for lines by typing a name or directory number in the Line field to obtain suggestions which match the search string.
- A line can only have a single mapping. Attempting to create a second mapping for a line generates a pop-up error message containing information about how to edit the mapping for that line.
- Selecting Default creates a default mapping. The default mapping is automatically applied if a directory number in the department or business group is not assigned a specific mapping.
- Select a playlist for the line from the dropdown menu of available playlists.
- Once you select a playlist, use the View/Edit Playlist button to open the playlist and view or edit the contents.
- Select Add to add the mapping to the line.
- Select Cancel to abort the changes.
Once a mapping for a business group has been created, the BG admin can view or edit the mapping by selecting the line. A trashcan icon is visible beside any mappings the BG Admin has permission to edit and is used to delete the mapping.
- Editing a mapping follows the same procedure as adding a mapping, except the title of the pop-up menu is Edit Mapping.
- Deleting a mapping removes it from the department or business group line.
Playlists & Tracks
On the Playlist & Tracks screen, the BG Admin can see details about the playlists and tracks currently available for their department or business group.
- A track is an audio segment (for example, an announcement or a music file).
- A playlist is a set of instructions for playing tracks (for example, which tracks to play, which order to play the tracks in, whether to repeat the list of tracks or not).

Tip: Show inherited playlists and tracks is enabled by default so that you can see all the available playlists and tracks.
- You can edit the resources belonging to your department and view (read-only) resources for parent departments, the business group, and global resources.
- Global resources display as separate entries in the table. When you select other read-only resources, the pop-up states whether the resource is inherited.
- If you disable Show inherited playlists and tracks, you can filter out all inherited resources and only see the resources that you can manage.
To create a new track:
- On the BG Admin Playlists & Tracks screen, select the New track button. This launches a pop-up window for creating a new track.
- Add a name for the track and select Upload Track > Choose File to upload the track in .wav format. Select the track to upload and then select Upload.
- The maximum file size for an individual track is 2 MB. For each department, or at the business group level, you can upload a maximum of 50 tracks with up to a total of 20 MB - whichever limit is hit first. Any department playlist has access to all audio files from its parent departments, the business group level, and the global scope.
- A track cannot share a name with any other tracks in the same business group. The track name must not start or end with a space and cannot be the word None.
- Track filenames are limited to 48 characters, with full UTF-8 support. Note that UTF-8 characters use multiple characters and so rapidly erode the allowed character limit. You cannot include forward slashes or commas in the track names.
- Use the Record/Play Track section of this pop-up window to record audio directly, instead of uploading a file.
- Preview tracks using the play icon.
- Select Add to save the new track.
- Select Cancel to abort the changes.
Once the track has been added to the business group, the BG Admin can view or edit the track by selecting the line. A trashcan icon is visible beside any tracks the BG Admin has permission to edit and is used to delete the track.
- Editing the track follows the same procedure as adding a track, except the title of the pop-up window is Edit Track.
- If the BG Admin does not have permission to modify the track, the upload, record, and apply options will not be available.
- Use the Download Track button to download an existing track.
- Deleting a track is not possible if the track is in use. A pop-up error message displays if the deletion is rejected, listing the playlists that are currently using the track.
To create a new playlist:
- On the BG Admin Playlists & Tracks screen, select the New Playlist button. This launches a pop-up window for creating the playlist.
- Add a name for the playlist and then select a track from the dropdown list.
- A playlist cannot share a name with any other playlists in the same business group. The playlist name must not start or end with a space and cannot be the word None.
- Playlist filenames are limited to 48 characters, with full UTF-8 support. Note that UTF-8 characters use multiple characters and so rapidly erode the allowed character limit. You cannot include forward slashes in the playlist name.
- You can create a maximum of 20 playlists per department or business group.
- All available tracks are listed in the dropdown menu.
- Select the Add Track button to add another row to the playlist. You can add a maximum of 15 tracks to a playlist.
- Use the trashcan icon to delete a track.
- Set the starting point of the playlist to either the beginning of the playlist or from a random track.
- Set an interruption for the playlist, if it is required.
- Select Interrupt with message to bring up a dropdown menu to choose the track to use as the interruption and set the interruption interval.
- Set the playlist completion action to either Repeat this playlist or Go to new playlist using the dropdown menu.
- Selecting Go to new playlist brings up a dropdown menu to select the playlist to play next.
- Select Add to save the new playlist.
- Select Cancel to abort the changes.
Once a playlist for a business group line is created, the BG Admin can view or edit the playlist by selecting the line. If a BG Admi has permission to edit a playlist, a trashcan icon is visible beside the playlist and selecting this icon deletes the playlist.
- Editing a playlist follows the same procedure as adding a playlist, except the title of the popup window is Edit Playlist.
- Deleting a playlist is not possible if it is in use. A popup error message displays if the deletion is rejected, listing the lines that are currently using the playlist.
- If a playlist contains tracks that are not available on the MetaSphere EAS for the business group, the Edit Playlist popup window shows an error message instructing the BG Admin to remove the specified tracks. The Apply button is not available until the tracks are removed.
